WITH enjoyable weather expected this week, it is the perfect time to venture out and explore Townsville.

Pleasant and warm conditions have been forecast for this long weekend.

The only snag is that some offshore winds may make it uncomfortable for those looking to head out on the boat.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Kimba Wong said the strongest winds would hit Saturday and warned boaties should expect easterly winds of up to 25 knots.

“It’s easing back ever so slightly on Sunday to Monday, dropping to 15 to 20 knots,” she said.

“On Sunday there is a very, very slight chance of a light shower.”

Ms Wong said temperatures would hit a top of 29C, while evenings would drop to a low of 19C, which is one degree cooler average.

The temperatures will make it perfect to head outdoors and tackle the new Mount Louisa walking tracks or spend a day at the Townsville Turf Club’s Family Race Day.

“There will be kids activities happening from 1pm to 4pm, jumping castles, face painting, hobby horse races,” Townsville Turf Club general manager Natalie Rintala said.

Sunshine Coast resident Michael Mansey will spend the long weekend travelling home after time in the north to visit family this week.

“We’ve been over to Magnetic Island,” he said. “We’ve got a caravan so will stop for a night on the way (home).”

Travellers hitting the road can expect fuel prices in Townsville to be steady.

“Regional Queensland doesn’t have a price cycle like southeast Queensland, and changes tend to be gradual and over time. The global oil price has also remained stable over the past few months,” RACQ spokeswoman Renee Smith said.

“So we don’t expect to see any changes over the long weekend. The latest average ULP price in Townsville is 113.9cpl, which we would consider a fair price.

“Townsville drivers can still save money by shopping around and using apps, like RACQ’S Fair Fuel Finder, to locate the best deals near them.” gate will
