Focus on the bush key issue for LNP hopeful in Traeger

- CAITLAN CHARLES

THE LNP’S candidate for Traeger has vowed to find the answers for the bush.

Calling herself a proud “bushie”, Marnie Smith (pictured) says she is sick of the same old stories in politics.

The diary manager for Senator Susan Mcdonald who grew up in Port Douglas and Forsayth says she knows what voters want.

“Not only do I know what they want, I also know what they don’t want – and that’s a politician who keeps saying ‘I’ll look into it’ and then does nothing,” Ms Smith said.

“People of the bush are sick of the same old stories and want answers. With me, what you see is what you get and that means passion and hard work.”

Ms Smith said when she and husband Geoff were running the Goldfields Hotel, customers would often talk about the lack of support from the southeast corner.

“As we all know the northwest contributes so much to the coffers of the state government, but that money does not seem to appear in our rural and remote areas.,” she said.

“City people just don’t seem to understand how tough it can be scratching out a living in the bush, particularly during periods of extended drought and ever-increasing costs,” Ms Smith said.

“I want to take those frustrations to Brisbane and come back with solutions based on what the voters of Traeger expect of me.”

Ms Smith plans to travel to the far reaches of the electorate in the lead up to the election.

She plans to take leave from Senator Mcdonald’s office to contest the election.
