I for one will not stand with you, Trisha Jankovic. Robert Towns is a huge part of our past, and, in spite of his history, should not be forgotten. We can’t pretend he never happened. I doubt whether the Indigenous of

Cairns know who he is, or care. Those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it.

AGS HERMIT PK

Trisha Jankovic, taking down Robert Towns statue won’t change history and will do nothing to fix things. Just like saying SORRY did nothing.

Trisha Jankovic, Cranbrook. Let sleeping dogs lie, don’t preach your moral high ground in this 21st century. Had you lived in those eras you would find it was just as much the accepted way of life as we accept today’s. We can’t hide history, and it should be on display for future generations to learn how civilisation evolved from oppression, which still exists throughout the world to the freedom we enjoy.

CARL. PIMLICO

Re: Trisha Jankovic letter to editor. Please channel your efforts into managing the crime rate in Townsville as taking down a statue will do stuff all. And by the way Cairns is absolutely no different to Townsville. Why pick on history when we have huge troubles in the present!! Please!!

SAM 4850

Steve, Belgian Gardens, yes there are complexities with the issue & there are multifaceted measures already in place, & criminal justice must be a major part of it as crimes of neglect & abuse cannot be ignored or justified. If crimes are ignored then victims are ignored & that should never be accepted. You can’t solve a situation when you only look at part of a situation. THE SAINT, CASTLE HILL

I have to agree in part to the views expressed by Sam 4850 and Warren 4814, regarding highway disruptions, but they miss an important point. Almost all of them are maintenance, long overdue maintenance, carried out at this time to support the perception that our elected representatives actually achieve something. If we elect Annastacia’s ALP and KAP puppets at the coming election, we will be able to enjoy a further 4 years of maintenance disruption free travel on our highways. LC CARDWELL

Dale a bit rich singling out Nick Dametto. Have you watched TV lately and read the newspaper? Labor are blatantly using these options for political advertising. Pity they didn’t use the time to give us a budget. KATH KIRWAN

David Whittaker LTE re: Newman comeback. You really should take off that tin foil hat. It makes you look and sound silly.

PHANTOM 4817

In answer to David Whittaker’s letter, Campbell Newman will not be back. He’s not even running for a seat. I have been wondering when someone would start on the sell assets rubbish and I would like to remind you that the only person in Qld was Anna Bligh when she sold half the railways.

BILL 4850

LTE writer 5/10 David Whittaker must live in a parallel universe! Campbell Newman is not standing in any seat for this upcoming Qld election so therefore CANNOT become Premier if the LNP win. By the way check out Labor if you want a list of asset sales. I think you need to be careful of what you wish for Mr Whittaker. JH MUNDINGBURRA

The premier was pretty quick to give 50 mill to Toowoomba’s motor precinct when Townsville has been waiting 10yrs for a quarter of that.

STEWIE MBIRA

Agree with KAP. Just got my home insurance renewal with GST & Stamp Duty approx 20% of the total amount. Need to make the abolition of Stamp Duty on insurance in NQ a state election issue.

GAZZA, KIRWAN

Beneath all the slick commercials, plans and promises, it’s still the same old Labor. The integrity scandals go on and on, unemployment remains the highest in Australia as does the State debt and Queensland only spends half of what NSW and Victoria spend on infrastructure as a percentage of the budget. This election is the first where the government gets a four year term. Can we really afford Labor again? BARNEY BELGIAN GARDENS

Haha. Queenslanders are being told to pick your own preferences in the upcoming elections? Isn’t that what you do anyway? How to vote cards are only for the sheep. Either make a difference or don’t bother.

BILL KIRWAN

Good work by premier in keeping us safe from COVID and delivering us a water pipeline. GF ANNANDALE 4814

Warning all Townsville residents, if you’re concerned about the shocking level of juvenile crime now, imagine 4 years under a Labor/greens minority govt. And you can say goodbye to coal jobs and
