Palmer’s candidate injured
CLIVE Palmer’s nephew and United Australia Party Mundingburra candidate Martin Brewster won’t be able to attend a Sky News election debate because he is in hospital being treated after being injured in a motorcycle crash more than a week ago.
Mr Brewster told the Townsville Bulletin he wouldn’t be able to make the Mundingburra election debate hosted by Sky News’ Peter Gleeson today because he was awaiting surgery after crashing his motorcycle during a ride with mates in Longreach last week.
Mr Brewster has broken four ribs in six places, his leg above his knee and his ankle but says otherwise he is doing well.
It’s understood Mr Brewster had been riding his HarleyDavidson Ultra in Longreach on Monday, October 5, when the crash occurred.
He said he had been navigating a “tighter than expected” roundabout when his back wheel slipped on some gravel, causing him to go down with the 400kg machine.
“Talk about inconvenient timing,” Mr Brewster said.
The perennial election candidate, who is contesting the marginal seat of Mundingburra (Labor, 1.1 per cent) for the UAP, hopes to be out of hospital in time for polling day on October 31 but said he would be getting around on a scooter instead.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics received a call about a singlevehicle motorcycle crash at the large roundabout on the Landsborough Highway in Longreach about 6.35am on Monday, October 5.
Candidates for the marginal seat of Mundingburra will take part in a live debate moderated by Sky News host Peter Gleeson at noon today.
