Hunting trip ends with serial drink drive dad in jail

- MIKAYLA MAYOH

A SOON-TO-BE FATHER of three’s history of drink driving has landed him behind bars after cracking a few drinks on the side of the road when his battery went flat.

Kayne Kipling was hunting with a mate north of Ayr when the battery to his car went flat and the pair “sat down and had a few drinks given that they were stuck”.

Kipling pleaded guilty in Ayr Magistrates Court to drive while over the middle alcohol limit but not over the high alcohol limit, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and disqualified driving.

The court heard Kipling’s poor driving history spanned Western Australia and Queensland with the most recent offence in February this year when he was given a twomonth suspended jail term.

Defence solicitor Tracy Brown said Kipling’s friend had called his mother to pick him up after an argument broke out between the pair.

Ms Brown said the mother had assisted Kipling to start the car before he made the decision to drive home and was spotted by police.

The court heard Kipling recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.124 per cent.

Acting Magistrate Scott Luxton said the 30-year-old had shown a lack of regard for other road users and the court when his disobeyed the disqualified driving order.

“Fines have been imposed in the past and despite that, you continue to behave in this manner,” he said.

Kipling will serve one month of a six month jail sentence and is disqualified from driving for three years. Convictions were recorded.
