ART OF BEING CREATIVE

-

STUDENTS at Vincent State School have remarkable talents with their artwork.

Barbara Guy, teacher aide and art coordinator, works closely with groups of students each week and instructs them on the basic techniques of art. Barb knows how to get the best from our students.

Principal Bronwyn Espig said: “It is a fabulous program where students are able to spend their lunch times and Friday afternoons working on creative art projects.

“Mrs Guy relates the art to a famous artist and fits around current topics like our COVID series. Each year the P and C release a calendar of the art works as a fundraiser.”

Barb has been working with students in art excellence for 13 years. She said: “It is marvellous see the delight on the children’s faces when they see their art displayed around the school.”

Students are so proud to enter local competitions and have been successful in winning some of these such as Townsville Show,

Eisteddfod, Townsville Christmas Flag and the Townsville City Council Bulletin Board competition for saving water.

The school has also put on art shows and participated in the Heatley Secondary College Twilight Arts Festival.

These activities allow the children to explore the elements of art using different types of media and techniques.

Their finished pieces show their own personal style and unique qualities.

It is a tradition at Vincent for all Year 6 students to complete their own individual canvas which they get to keep as a memento of their time at the school.

Barb said: “It is great to see and feel these artistic skills flowing from their young minds.”

Students range from Year 1 to Year 6 and their creative abilities are amazing. the school’s art displays are often praised by visitors, parents and staff. The art adds a colourful welcoming touch to the school.
