Rebels plan to wage war against Olympic

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

REBELS are preparing for war at 1300SMILES Active.

It will be a battle of conflicting styles as the physical Rebels aim to win the midfield fight against a pacy MA Olympic.

The Mundingburra outfit like to send the ball wide and use their speed women on the edges, while the Rebels are happy to plough it up the guts.

It has the makings g of a war of attrition ion in the North rth Queensland d F o o t b a l l w o m e n ’ s p r e m i e r league prel i m i n a r y final.

Rebels coach Scott Reid said his side were more than ready.

“We will be there for 90 minutes, 120 minutes and through to penalties. We will be there to the end,” he said.

“It will be a difficult match, we don’t come into expecting to just win. We expect to be in a battle for the entire game.

“Our strengths lie in different areas of the pitch and the only way we can counter their strengths is by using our own.”

Olympic are aiming to replicate last season when they downed Rebels in the preliminary final to set up a grand final showdown against premiers Brothers.

But it won’t be easy despite blasting Rebels off the park in the first game of the season 7-0.

On that day Taylah Roncato and Tegan Cox ran wild with a hat-trick each but it was the return clash at Greenwood Park that showed how far both sides had come.

R e b e l s ground out a 2-2 draw a g a i n s t Mundingburra, their third in a row after earlier draws to fellow top-four sides Brothers and Saints Eagles Souths. “There really has not been a lot between the top four sides,” Reid said.

“Each game this season has been really competitive and the finals series is going to be competitive.

“This is not a mid-season game, this is a Cup game. This is about who can put the best 90 minutes together on the field. It is about having 11 players on the field confident in themselves.”
