A drug-driver, who two months earlier was charged with supplying dangerous drugs to three people, has faced the Charters Towers Magistrates Court.

In a separate matter, Wayne Robert Lyons, 49, pleaded guilty in Charters Towers Magistrates Court to driving with drugs present in his saliva, possession of utensils used to administer dangerous drugs, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and three of supplying marijuana.

Police prosecutor Kelly Mythen said police executed a warrant on a High St home on July 10 and Lyons told police he had a cone piece in his bedroom.

Police also found a clipseal bag with 12 marijuana seeds in the corner of the room. A mobile phone was seized as part of the search and a forensic search of the phone found three messages where he offered to supply drugs to two different people between May and June this year.

Ms Mythen said on September 6, police conducting patrols pulled over Lyons who was driving a white Mitsubishi Trident at 3.20pm.

They noticed he was nervous and a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a small quantity of cannabis under the driver’s seat.

A roadside saliva test was conducted and Lyons tested positive for methamphetamine.

Defence solicitor Nick Douglas said his client had obtained full-time work and had made efforts, given his past criminal history from four years ago, to “remove himself from that life”.

Magistrate Viviana Keegan fined Lyons $500 for the six drug offences. For the drug driving offence he was fined $300 and disqualified from driving for one month.

Convictions were recorded.

THREE-MONTH BAN

A three-month ban has been issued to a Charters Towers man caught drug-driving in September.

Michael James Le Masurier, 45, pleaded guilty to driving while unlicensed on Mount Leyshon Road and to drug driving at the same time.

The court heard Le Masurier was stopped by police on September 19 by police for a licence check.

Police also conducted a roadside saliva test, with Le Masurier testing positive for methamphetamine and marijuana. The court heard he had been before a magistrate in July for drug offences, during which time he said he suffered a back injury and used the drugs to cope with the pain.

Magistrate Viviana Keegan fined Le Masurier $150 for driving without a licence.

She fined him a further $300 for drug-driving and banned him from holding a licence for three months.
