Rush to a big weekend

- TRUDY BROWN

ONE of Charters Towers’ biggest weekends of the year is only days away from kicking off.

The Film Festival and Twilight Markets are on this Saturday, followed by Towers Rush on Sunday.

Towers Rush is one of the region’s not-to-be-missed events and is now in its sixth

year. Charters Towers Regional Council community portfolio chair Councillor Graham Lohmann said it attracted visitors from across North Queensland, as well as being a fantastic community event.

“No Rush is ever the same and it’s one of the things people love,” he said.

“Each year there’s new activities and challenges for everyone to enjoy and year is no different.

“I encourage everyone to register early, though you can still register at the markets.”

Organisers have also been busy making sure the event is COVIDSAFE.

Cr Lohmann said there would be several measures put in place to make both Towers Rush and the Film Festival and Twilight Markets this

COVIDSAFE events. “Because of COVID, we also won’t have any chairs available at the Twilight Markets, so council is encouraging everyone to bring a chair or picnic rug along,” he said.

“There will be signage to remind people to socially distance, hand sanitiser will be easily available, and staff will carry out increased regular cleaning routines.

“However, if you are feeling unwell please stay home.”

Anyone who plans to go is also being encouraged to download the EVA Check-in app.

Saturday’s film festival will feature eight short movies made by Charters Towers school students.
