Teen charged over alleged spree in stolen car

POLICE have arrested and charged a Townsville teen over his alleged use of a stolen car.

The 18-year-old was caught by police as he allegedly tried to conceal himself in the roof cavity of a Phil West Court property.

Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Breitkreut­z said police received a call from a member of the public who said they had seen the teenager and the stolen car at a Queenton address.

Police will allege the 2006 Holden Commodore was stolen from Bundock St, Belgian Gardens, on Monday.

Townsville later that day and at 6.25pm on October 27 it was involved in a hit and run incident at the Coles Express store on Ingham Rd, Garbutt.

Sergeant Breitkreut­z said it was alleged the teen drove the vehicle to Charters Towers.

The teenager was held overnight in the Townsville Watchhouse and was to appear in the Townsville Magistrate­s Court today charged with stealing/receiving tainted property, unlawful possession of a motor vehicle, obstructin­g police and breaching bail.

CAUSING FEAR

A Charters Towers woman has faced court in Townsville charged with going armed so as to cause fear.

Sergeant Breitkreut­z said police were at Centenary Park investigat­ing an alleged assault on Saturday when the woman came running into the park brandishin­g a baseball bat.

Barbara Anne Snowden, 38, appeared in the Townsville Magistrate­s Court on Monday where she pleaded guilty to the charge. She was sentenced to 40 hours’ community service.

$1000 FINE

A Mount Isa man has been fined nearly $1000 after drinking liquor in public. Police said the man was found in Deane St at 10.45pm on Saturday. It is alleged the man was consuming liquor and was behaving in a threatenin­g manner.

He was given a $133 fine for consuming liquor in a public place and an $800 notice for a public nuisance offence.

FAIL TO GIVE WAY

Failing to give way when doing a U-turn has earned a Charters Towers 53-year-old driver a $400 fine. No one was injured as a result of the action.

DRUG OFFENCES

A driver and her passenger will face court in relation to drug offences after being stopped by police on Friday.

Police stopped the driver, a 24-year-old Townsville woman, who allegedly tested positive to an illicit drug.

She was given a notice to face Charters Towers Magistrate­s Court on January 11.

Her passenger, a 31-yearold Townsville man, was searched and police have charged him with being in possession of an item used in the commission of a crime.

It is alleged they foundsever­al clipseal bags.

He will face Charters Towers Magistrate­s Court on November 30.
