Council deals with change
Proposals for major building works
A SHOOTING range and a health care clinic are among material change of use applications lodged with Charters Towers Regional Council during the past quarter.
Councillors at Wednesday’s meeting were informed about three major applications, and of the 40 applications for building, plumbing and planning works during July to September.
Among the applicants were Michael and Lynda Bethel, who applied for a permit for a function facility at their Texas Longhorn Tours farm stay tourist operation on Urdera Road at Leahton Park.
The application included 82 carparking spaces on the site to accommodate visitors.
The Bethels began work on their plans for a functions facility during the COVID-19 lockdown this year.
“We’ve got a functions venue, but it’s not just weddings,” Mr Bethel said.
“We’ve got a big screen out
side and an area for groups to have workshops and things.
“It’s a multipurpose area for functions of all kinds.”
An outdoor sport and recreation shooting range, and ancillary camping, has been proposed for a location on Ellenvale Road, Reid River, within the council boundaries.
The application was lodged by Steven Merchant for the land which had been zoned rural, for animal husbandry purposes.
Council approved the change of use application to
allow for plans for a shooting range and camping at the site.
A material change of use has been requested for a Gill Street site where Milana Dental Pty Ltd is proposing to construct a dental clinic next to the historic ambulance building.
The site was within the general residential zone under the town plan, but has been changed to allow for operation of a health care service.
The council was told the building works proposed during the July to September quarter were worth a total of $3.3m.
