LEADERSHIP VITAL TO GET US OUT OF COVID HOLE

-

Tomorrow the people of North Queensland will go to the polls to vote for a new state government in what is probably the most important election in recent history. Our region, the state and the nation are coming out of what has been a devastating one-in-100 year event, the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our economy has been hit with a battering ram, it’s on its knees, with all three levels of government borrowing money to help keep our economy afloat. Coming out of this pandemic the state needs strong leadership – people who can look at the big picture, into the future, with plans to grow North Queensland’s economy, population and jobs.

Labor has had many years to implement its plan. Depending on your point of view, it may have done a good or bad job on the economy.

We have had major infrastructure projects like the Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

But on the issue of crime it has failed on every metric and despite the tragic death of four kids in a stolen car crash this year nothing has changed.

The LNP, on the other hand, has come with a crime plan.

Granted, the curfew is draconian but at least it’s something different, a real change, an effort to move the dial on the crime crisis.

The problem with crime being such an issue is that the LNP has banked on it being the major issue to woo voters.

It is spending big on the Cairns hospital but that funding hasn’t been replicated here.

If I ask just one thing, please be informed when you vote and vote for the party or candidate you think will best serve North Queensland because God knows the southeast doesn’t need any more help.

We need a government that understands our issues and can build a post COVID economy from which we can all benefit.
