Born in 1470, the son of deposed King Edward IV. His father was restored as monarch in 1471 and Edward V succeeded him in 1483. Edward’s uncle, Richard III, then seized power. Edward was held captive and possibly murdered.

Australian Indigenous activist and writer born Kathleen Ruska in 1920. She married Bruce

Walker and became an activist in the 1960s. She wrote several poetry books, under the name Kath Walker, before she took on the Indigenous name Oodgeroo in the 1980s. She died in 1993.

Dutch-born English monarch born in 1650. His mother was the daughter of Charles I and in 1688 he deposed unpopular Catholic king James I to become king. He died heirless in 1702.

American actor born in 1900. Making her debut on stage before moving on to films and TV shows, she is best known for her role as Mrs Howell in Gilligan’s Island. She died in 1991.

Victoria Cross recipient born in Ireland in 1885. He arrived in Australia in 1912, enlisted in the AIF in 1915 and went to Egypt then to the Western Front. At Mouquet Farm, Pozieres, he rescued several men from No Man’s Land under fire and was awarded the VC. He died in 1935.

Australian rugby league player and coach born in 1950. He played for Brisbane’s Eastern Suburbs and later Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, as well as representi­ng Queensland, NSW and Australia, later turning to coaching, before retiring in 2011.

Australian musician and songwriter born in 1945. After playing with several bands including the Shadows, he went on to write and produce albums and write hit songs for Olivia Newton-john.
