Dametto outlines plans for new term

- CAMERON BATES

NEWLY re-elected Hinchinbrook MP Nick Dametto has promised to hold Labor to account on their election promises for the region.

Mr Dametto ( pictured) told the Townsville Bulletin he would not stand for any backtracking from promises made during the election campaign.

He said promises included a reduction in irrigated water tariffs, a new ambulance station for Burdell, renal dialysis for Ingham Hospital and funding for a new sewage treatment plant at Port Hinchinbrook.

“Labor have made some important commitments and I’m going to make sure they see them through,” Mr Dametto said.

“The community and I have fought long and hard for both dialysis and the sewage treatment plant, now it’s up to me to ensure Labor follows through.”

Mr Dametto said he would be introducing Katter’s Australian Party’s Bill to repeal Labor’s “reef regulations within the first 100 days of the new term of parliament”.

“We have the Bill drafted and will be proceeding to finalise it before introducing it into parliament,” he said.

The KAP MP said the LNP’S pandering to inner-city voters during their campaign had “backfired spectacularly”.

“Katter’s Australian Party unashamedly supports our agricultural sector,” he said.

Once a new cabinet is sworn in, Mr Dametto said he would seek a meeting with the Health Minister to push the case for a CT scanner and emergency department upgrades to Ingham Hospital that were previously outlined in Townsville Hospital and Health Service’s COVID-19 Recovery – Proposed Infrastructure Program.

“I said prior to the election that I’ll be working hard to make sure the hospital gets all three necessary upgrades,” Mr Dametto said.

“While the government has been in caretaker mode, a number of issues have raised their head including the design of the Townsville Northern Access Intersections Upgrade.

“As soon as we have a confirmed transport and main roads minister, this will be one of the first concerns I will be seeking to discuss.”
