Trekkers to fall for Ingham site
AN INCREASINGLY popular Townsville-based bushwalking club is visiting one of North Queensland’s hidden gems this Sunday – Hinchinbrook’s Raspberry Creek terraced waterfall system.
More than 70 people have confirmed they will join Townsville Hike and Explore’s family-friendly trek to the falls, which features a natural infinity pool with an expansive, elevated view over the Girringun National Park.
Townsville Hike and Explore founder Michael Pugh
said he’d fielded plenty questions about the falls.
“It’s only become popular with the bushwalking and hiking community over the last 18 months or so and I am always getting inquiries about going and having a look,” Mr Pugh said.
He said the game-changing proposal to build a Paluma to Wallaman Falls hiking and mountain bike trail had increased the buzz around the falls.
“Raspberry Falls, they are planning on that being one of the, if not the key point of interest on that walk.” of
Mr Pugh said the club, which was launched less than two years ago, continued to grow in popularity.
He said it had more than 5000 highly engaged followers on Facebook, Instagram and its website.
“We’re running four or five events every week, ranging from one-hour Heart Foundation walks on Tuesday all the way up to our halfday and full-day hikes on the weekends,” Mr Pugh said.
He said the club would focus on more family-friendly hiking and swimming treks during the hotter summer
months, as well as organising more hikes in the Hinchinbrook region.
“We have a huge membership now from within Hinchinbrook, especially around Ingham …” he said.
“They love travelling down to hike with us here but they often speak of all the hidden gems they have up there and Townsville Hike and Explore will be doing more regular events up in Hinchinbrook next year.”
Mr Pugh encouraged anyone who wanted to join Sunday’s hike to get in touch via the club’s Facebook page.
