ANGER AFTER YOUNG CRIM TARGETS BUSINESSES, ENDS UP IN HOSPITAL

- CAMERON BATES

A CHILD criminal accused of leaving a wanton trail of destruction in the Ingham central business district ended up in hospital after a botched break-in.

Senior Sergeant Geoff Bormann said Ingham Police were investigating damage to four businesses overnight Monday.

The juvenile suspect allegedly attempted to force entry through the rear doors of two properties, namely The Knightclub Function Centre and Vinnies Ingham, a charitable organisation staffed primarily by retired volunteers.

Top Stitch Vinyl and Canvas, which only opened in January and is between Vinnies and the function centre, was also smashed in an act of mindless vandalism.

Senior Sergeant Bormann said the suspect also allegedly smashed a window at a Herbert Street hotel, and suffered “an injury with a large amount of blood left at the scene”. He said police found the suspect sleeping at home.

“We called the QAS while he was in our custody, he suffered cuts to his leg which he received treatment for at Ingham Hospital,” he said.

The officer-in-charge of Ingham Police Station said the juvenile suspect was arrested and questioned, and forensic officers from Townsville completed crime scene examinations yesterday.

“Further inquiries are being made, including gathering CCTV footage before charges are laid,” he said.

Top Stitch Vinyl and Canvas owner Alex Webb said she had essentially lost a day of work running back and forth between the landlord and insurance company and was facing at least a $250 excess for the smashed front door.

“They just smashed it purely to be pains in the ar--s,” she said.
