Efficiency cure for medical group

- TONY RAGGATT

A SPECIALISED warehouse supplying pharmaceutical and medical products throughout North Queensland is under construction in Mount Louisa.

The facility is being developed by the Gibb Group which has been active in the Townsville market, particularly with the 547 Industry Park and adjacent land holdings in Woolcock Street.

The new warehouse and logistics facility is being developed for the CH2 healthcare group. CH2 is the Bunnings of the health industry with a catalogue of some 50,000 lines.

CH2 national operations manager Paul Rush said the new facility would improve efficiencies by allowing them to stock goods closer to customers in North Queensland.

At present, stock is delivered via air freight from Brisbane.

“We shift a lot of product to Townsville and Cairns,” Mr Rush said. “Everything goes up on air freight. This will be more efficient and we get closer to our customer base.”

CH2 supplies customers including public and private hospitals, pharmacies, medical centres and dentists.

Gibb Group Queensland managing director Glen Wintour said they were excited to work with CH2 to design a specialised facility to meet their needs.

The 2020sq m building includes an 1800sq m temperature controlled warehouse and is being built by Lanskey Constructions next door to 547 Industrial Park and in front of the Iron Mountain document storage facility in Woolcock Street. The new warehouse’s tilt panel walls are just being erected.

“It’s exciting for us to work with CH2 to design a facility for them here,” Mr Wintour said.

“This is something that needed to be specially designed to suit their needs and that’s our specialty, to work with users like that.”

CH2 was formed with the merger of two Australian companies in 2006 – the Victorian Hospitals Association, later Hospital Supplier of Australia, and Clifford Hallam Pharmaceuticals.

CH2 is Australia’s only fully integrated pharmaceutical and medical consumable distributor with business units of hospitals, community pharmacy, primary care, vet and aged and community care.

The Mount Louisa warehouse is due to be completed in January next year.
