Meeting rising safety needs

-

MEASURING for dust, mould and hazardous materials like asbestos is an important task that is prompting an expansion for a national business in Townsville. GCG is a workplace health, safety and occupational hygiene service provider that has leased new offices at the Dalrymple Central Complex in Garbutt.

The company’s North Queensland operations team leader, Bobbie Trevor, said the Townsville operation was a growing business that needed room to expand.

“We are very happy with this office, which is in a central location,” she said.

The office at 125 Dalrymple Road has been fitted out to the company’s needs, with a former reception area converted into a climate-controlled laboratory.

The lab analyses samples taken from their field work on mining, construction and other heavy industries to support clients in controlling the health hazards in their workplace.

Ms Trevor said the Townsville operation was focused on workplace occupational hygiene but had also been busy after the Townsville floods last year, assessing the remediation work for the removal of mould.

She said the company worked with quarries and mines throughout the state undertaking dust monitoring as part of the legislative requirements of the industry.

More locally, GCG does a lot of work in the identification and monitoring of works associated with hazardous materials such as asbestos.

Colliers leasing executive Ben Wheeler said the Dalrymple Central Complex was one of the most modern office tenancies in Townsville and had the added appeal of good exposure to a major road and a lot of onsite parking.

Mr Wheeler said the leasing market was still “pretty strong”, particularly in the industrial sector.
