‘THE BUTCHER’ IS READY TO RUMBLE

- NICK WRIGHT

AS far as grudge matches go, Damian Wright is approaching his upcoming bout with more respect for his opponent than expected.

But that does not mean he will be pulling punches when he steps into the ring at Ross Island Hotel – if anything it will spur him on to an even more emphatic performance.

The first time the Townsville pugilist of Knuckles Boxing Gym fought Dallas

Mclaughlin of Hawks Boxing the pair only had two days to prepare.

Despite claiming the victory in that first meeting four months ago, Wright was eager to see what would transpire when they had sufficient training time.

That will come to fruition at tomorrow night’s Rumble At The Ross.

“He put up one hell of a fight, and then he wanted a rematch, which I was glad to give him – he’s a worthy opponent,” Wright said.

“I think it will be heaps better, hopefully we can both perform and put out all the hard work we’ve put in.

“I hope nothing but the best for Dallas, and then after the fight I want to just have nothing but respect for each other.”

Wright’s career in fighting began as a kickboxer, but when he saw Knuckles Boxing Gym owner Matty Rooney hoist a poster up for an upcoming card he was immediately drawn to a change.

He has had the gloves on ever since, however for the time being he is content to see how his time in the amateur leagues plays out before considering a professional berth.

‘The Butcher’ will not be over-thinking his upcoming clash with Mclaughlin, that only clouds his ambitions.

Equipped with a relaxed mentality that can switch in an instant in the ring, he said the tools were there for him to go back-to-back against his cross-town rival.
