-

A MAN was arrested yesterday after an hour-long siege inside a Kirwan home.

Police descended on a Kent tucky Court home about 1 11.30am following a call from a distressed woman about an incident on Thursday night.

District duty officer Senior Sergeant Matt Lyons said based on the information police believed there was a man inside the house with several guns.

Sen-sgt Lyons said specialist police units were deployed to the scene and were able to isolate the situation and contain it.

“Townsville Tactical Crime Squad crews who are specially trained in the capability to do cordons (and the) Townsville Rapid Action Patrol who are also here in support of them at the house (executed the cordon),” he said.

“After half an hour or so a male exited the rear of the dwelling and was taken into custody by police who were positioned in houses at the rear of the dwelling.”

The man was arrested without incident ( pictured) on strangulation and firearm offences.

“That male has been placed under arrest for strangulation offences and also firearms offences,” he said. “A quick search of the residence thus far has uncovered an item of interest, which we were looking for today and we’re going to search the house further for items that will help us in this investigation.

“The matter is now under investigation by Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch who will try and obtain further evidence from the dwelling as a result of the crime scene search.”

The male was transported to the Townsville Watch-house.

The man had not been charged at the time of going to print.
