THE man involved in Friday’s police siege has been hit with 16 charges including assault occasioning bodily harm and numerous weapons offences.

Police attended an address on Kentucky Court in Kirwan about 12.30pm after they received information from a female in relation to an incident at the house on Thursday night.

District duty officer Senior Sergeant Matt Lyons said the siege lasted for about an hour before the man was taken into custody without incident.

“A quick search of the residence thus far has uncovered an item of interest which we were looking for today and we’re going to search the house further for items which will help us in this investigation,” Sergeant Lyons said yesterday.

“The matter is now under investigation by Townsville Criminal Investig a t i o n B r a n c h who will try and o b t a i n f u r t h e r evidence from the dwelling as a result of the crime scene search.”

The 27-year-old man has since been charged with 16 offences, with the majority relating to Friday’s incident.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said some offences were related to a separate incident on October 31.

The man has been charged with five counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, two counts of wilful damage, four counts of threatening violence and one count of strangulation.

He was also charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, with one classified as category H (handguns) and one as category M (such as crossbows, knives).

He was also charged with possessing a dangerous drug and possessing suspected stolen property.

The man appeared in court and was remanded in custody.
