HAPPY REMARK HELPS TO LIGHTEN THE LOAD

- ELISABETH SILVESTER

A KIND comment from one of Summer Murdock’s prep students was a turning point on her weight-loss journey.

The primary school French teacher has lost 25.8kg since the beginning of the year after embarking on a complete life overhaul at 5 Star Fitness.

Originally inspired by her mum to lose some weight, she has now inspired her whole family to become healthier versions of themselves by collectively losing 73.8kg in nine months.

Ms Murdock said she worked out five days a week using weights and climbed Castle Hill every weekend.

“I was skinny until I was in Grade 3 but I have always been a big kid and it is something that I have always dealt with,” she said.

“The first time I weighed myself after the first week I had lost 2.4kg and I just thought it was crazy.”

Originally weighing 118kg and wearing size 24 clothes, Ms Murdock now comfortably fits size 16 and still “doesn’t believe it”.

Part of Ms Murdock’s weight loss success has been the encouragement from her mother, father, two sisters and boyfriend-in-law as well as learning to reset her mindset to make healthier choices.

“We all work out together and it feels awesome,” she said.

“We all motivate each other and keep each other on track. We are each other’s biggest supporters.

“I also wasn’t fussed about portions before but now I am a lot more focused on how much I eat and more aware of what I am eating.”

The ultimate goal for the 24-year-old is to lose another 20kg but she is stoked with her progress.

“I had a friend call me skinny last week and I had a little preppy saying I looked ‘less thick’,” she said.

“It makes me proud of what I have achieved.

“And it’s nice to know people have noticed my hard work.”
