REMEMBER WHEN We saw UFOS in the sky

-

I RECALL an event for which I have absolutely no answers, nor has anyone I have spoken to about the subject been able to give any sort of explanation about what occurred on October 21, 1978.

My son was about to leave for rugby league training, at about 4.30pm, but when he reached his car parked in front of our house he called out “come and see this strange thing in the sky”.

My wife and I went outside to see what had taken our son’s interest. He pointed to the clear western sky. There, in plain sight, was a large, dark, cigar-shaped object moving slowly in a southerly direction.

Surrounding it were up to six smaller craft, glistening like silver stars as the setting sun cast its rays on their seemingly metallic bodies. It resembled a large aircraft carrier being escorted by destroyers.

I noticed many of our neighbours were also out staring and pointing skywards.

Assuming there had to be a logical explanation, I phoned the Williamstown RAAF base, reported what was happening and asked whether there were any aircraft in the vicinity at the time. The operator I spoke to assured me there were definitely none.

I returned to the street where the excitement was over, as the strange objects had gone and all that remained were people voicing opinions on what they saw. When our son returned from training he reported many of his mates had also seen it.

The mystery became even more so the following morning.

On the news it was reported that during the night young pilot Frederick Valentich, flying a Cessna 182 light aircraft over Bass Strait, had reported to Melbourne Air Traffic Control he had seen an unidentified aircraft above him.

Shortly after, his engine faltered and to this day neither he nor his plane have ever been seen or heard from since.

Despite several reports and various explanations, mystery still surrounds this strange occurrence.

While I do not suggest there

Frederick Valentich.

is a link between what we witnessed up here in the Hunter Valley and the circumstances in Victoria, It does make you wonder. Doesn’t it?
