Two houses for the price of one

Double rewards here for the price of an average Brisbane house

- SAMANTHA HEALY

WHY settle for one house when you can get two for the price of one average house in Brisbane?

Three properties, each with two houses on the same block, have recently sold in Townsville, with another “rough around the edges” property with two houses listed for just $250,000.

On November 9, an acreage property at Kelso – complete with two houses – sold for $620,000.

The current median house price in Greater Brisbane is $535,225. In the Brisbane council area, it is $710,000.

For the price of the 4.15 acre Kelso property you could buy a four-bedroom house on a 480sq m block at Pallara.

The Kelso property sits at the end of a court and has a rear paddock, two smaller fenced yards, two separate houses, bore and lawns.

The first house has double doors opening into the entry

foyer and flows through to the massive living/dining room.

There are mountain views from this space, which features cathedral ceilings, high set windows and glass doors.

There are four bedrooms including a master bedroom with a walk-in robe, ensuite and a private entrance to the rear patio. There is also a theatre room.

The second house has three bedrooms and was built in 2006. The property, which was sold by Ray White Kirwan agent Craig Pearce, was bought by a local FIFO worker.

“They were a couple who are expecting their first baby in January,” Mr Pearce said. “They had been looking for acreage with a nice house.”

But it is not the only “two for the price of one” property sold by Mr Pearce recently.

In August, he sold an Alice River property, complete with two houses, on just over one acre of land for $530,000.

That property was highly sought-after by buyers looking for a room to share with extended family, Mr Pearce said.

“That one already had two generations living there,” he said. “I had 24 groups through.”

Mr Pearce said that property sold to a buyer from the Far North who wanted a place to call home when they came back to Townsville.

Meanwhile, in Cranbrook, another buyer snapped up a 969sq m block with two highset houses on October 22.

Located close to Stockland Shopping Centre, the two fullsized houses each have three bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and multiple living areas.

It was sold by Page & Pearce Real Estate.

In Deeragun, a “rough around the edges” property with two houses has also been listed for just $250,000.

“This property screams with potential,” the listing, by Explore Property agent Mal Charlwood, says.

“Sitting on a big 1173sq m corner block of land, one could visualise a simple subdivision (with council approval) and after a decent renovation you may end up with two separate investments.”
