Police nab drug drivers

FIVE drug-drivers will appear in the Charters Towers Magistrate­s Court next year after being charged by police.

On Thursday, a 47-year-old man driving a Ford Falcon was stopped for a roadside saliva test just before 2pm on Park St. Police allege the man tested positive to a relevant drug and will face Charters Towers Magistrate­s Court on January 25.

On Friday, police gave three alleged drug-drivers notices to appear in court in January.

The first was a 37-year-old woman driving a Nissan just before midday when she tested positive to a relevant drug.

A 36-year-old male was stopped for drug testing on Boundary St. He was driving a Commodore and will appear in court on January 11.

The third, a 33-year-old male, was stopped at 10.30am on Mount Leyshon Rd in a Holden Commodore. He will appear in court on January 25.

Police also gave a 48-yearold man a notice to appear in court on January 25 for drug driving. He was stopped in a Toyota for a test at 3.30pm on Thompson St on Monday.

BREAK-INS

Police are investigat­ing two break and enters that happened overnight on Thursday.

A homeowner reported an attempted break-in between 10pm and 3.30am.

Police said the victim was home when offenders attempted to gain entry through a rear sliding and main door.

It is also believed an attempt was made to enter a vehicle at the property.

The second attempted break and enter happened at a Vulture St home at 1.40am.

There was damage done to the rear glass panel in an attempt to open the door from the inside, but police said when the homeowner surprised the suspect they fled.

DRINK-DRIVER

A 20-year-old Charters Towers man has been charged with drink-driving after he was pulled over on Friday night.

Police stopped a Toyota Landcruise­r on New Queen Rd for a random breath test and the P-plate driver allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading for .09 per cent. His licence has been suspended and he will face court on January 11.

UNLICENSED DRIVING

The driver of a Mazda will appear in court on November 30 charged with unlicensed driving. The 27-year-old male was stopped on Gill St on Friday just before midnight.

WILFUL DAMAGE

Police are investigat­ing the wilful damage of fencing on Weir Rd. It is alleged machinery was used to damage six fence posts between November 16 and 17.
