Bowls and golf results from around the region this week

- TRUDY BROWN GOLD CITY BOWLS CLUB

THERE were three games of bowls played at the Gold City Bowls Club on Sunday.

With a winning margin of eight ends, Ken Peace, Pam Norton and Ian Barrett chalked up a win against Errol Shuttlewor­th, Grace Gleeson and Bill Bowen.

The final score in the triples game on rink two was 30-22.

On rink one, Tina Barrett, Jack Scholes and Daniel Dunn had a win against Mary McCormack, Bob Wine and Clint Macpherson, recording 23-13 victory.

Bev Davis, Harry Bartlett and Graham Harris had a win in their triples game on rink three against Shirley Gravenall, Laurie Laidlow and Aron Macpherson. The final score was 23-19.

The weather was hot for the last Tuesday bowling session this week.

On rink one, Tina Barrett, Rhonda Richards, Jack Scholes and Mary Donaldson defeated Bev Davis, Dennis Donaldson, Ken Peace and Grace Gleeson with a final score of 27-7.

A reminder to all members that there is no bowls until the new year.

Work has started on the new bowls green, which is expected to be completed by December 19. Tuesday bowls will return on January 12. and

CHARTERS TOWERS GOLF CLUB

PLAYERS enjoyed the conditions on the green at the Charters Towers Golf Club last weekend.

Jordan Marty won Saturday’s competitio­n with 40pts c/b. Runner up was Greg Reed 40pts, run down Kameka Waerea 39pts (junior), Anthony Hourston 38pts.

Nearest the pins 3 and 12 went to Tony Gilligan, 6 and 15 went to Haydn Champion.

Sunday’s men’s winner was Alex Li 68 nett, runner up Ken

Thompson 69 nett c/b, run down Tom Wilson 69 nett, Gary Gilligan 70 nett. Men’s nearest pins 3 and 12 Ken Thompson, 6 and 15 John Barr, putts Darren West 25.

Sunday’s ladies’ winner was Tonya Gilligan 69 nett, runner up Rachel Martell 71 nett, run down Deb Brownson 73 nett, pins 3 and 12 Tracy Morris, 6 and 15 Rachel Martell, putts Tracy Morris and Lee Ainsworth 28.
