THE city and beaches area ticked most of the boxes for the community in the region. The community felt easy access to public amenities, a high feeling of safety, a closeness to nature, and easy connection to public transport networks, were the most important aspects for its community.

The community did feel like there needed to be more parking and more child care.

RIVERSIDE 70/100

RIVERSIDE suburbs were considered second in the most liveable rankings with the natural features of the area key for the community.

The community also felt the closeness to walking, jogging and bike paths were an ideal part of a neighbourh­ood.

Riverside was ranked second in the most liveable areas of the Townsville local government area.

MAGNETIC ISLAND 69/100

MAGNETIC Island residents want to feel safe and connected to the natural environmen­t.

The idyllic island off Townsville’s coast had the third-highest rating for liveabilit­y in the Townsville region.

The council’s survey found the top five things Maggie residents wanted the most was proximity to nature, their safety – including crime, traffic and pollution, they were able to be active with walking, jogging and bike tracks, and the community feels strongly connected.

EMERGING COMMUNITY NORTH (NORTHERN BEACHES) 66/100

THE council survey found the community in the newer suburbs wanted to feel safe and have access to local amenities and businesses.

The community felt like there was a lack of public space available and more landscapin­g and natural elements were needed.

CENTRAL WEST 65/100

CENTRAL suburbs west community said the condition of public open spaces and elements of the natural environmen­t were key to a good neighbourh­ood. The community also valued its safety and the connection to shops and parks.

KIRWAN AND UPPER ROSS 58/100

A SENSE of belonging to the community in Kirwan and the Upper Ross was not as important as access to the environmen­t, according to the survey.

The community ranked a sense of safety and the condition of public spaces as a necessity.

CENTRAL EAST 58/100

THE community in the central east feels natural features, safety, a connection to public transport and other local businesses and amenities were key. However, landscapin­g and natural elements and access to neighbourh­ood amenities was at the lower end of importance to the community.

NORTHWEST 57/100

SAFETY, closeness to nature, good public open spaces, and a connection to walking, jogging and bike paths and public transport was key for community members in the northwest. The community wanted to feel a sense of neighbourh­ood safety and a sense of personal safety.

SOUTHWEST 51/100

COMMUNITIE­S in Townsville’s southwest suburbs ranked their need for personal safety the highest, their closeness to nature coming in second, a strong connected community third and the rural character of the region contribute­d to their love of the region.

The southwest ranked the lowest in the most liveable parts of the region.
