NOVEMBER 30

Australian rugby player born in 1960. He played for the Canberra Royals, North Brisbane and the Wallabies before switching to league in 1983, playing for the Dragons, Sea Eagles, St Helens, NSW and Australia. He later took up coaching.

DECEMBER 1 MARIE BASHIR

Australian doctor and governor born in 1930. She graduated from Sydney Medical School in 1956 becoming a GP but later specialisi­ng in psychiatry. She was appointed governor of NSW in 2001 and served until 2014.

DECEMBER 2 PETER BLAKELEY

Australian pop singer born in 1960. He was a singer with the band the Rockmelons and later Peter Blakeley and the Resurrecti­on. He had hits with songs such as Crying In The Chapel. He still performs.

DECEMBER 3 DARYL HANNAH

American actor born in 1960. She came to prominence in films such as Blade Runner and Splash in the 1980s. She has also directed and produced films and TV shows. She is scheduled to be seen soon in the TV series The Now.

DECEMBER 4 GLYNIS NUNN

Australian heptathlet­e born Glynis Saunders in 1960. She won gold in the heptathlon at the 1982 Brisbane Commonweal­th Games and then went on to win gold at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. She retired from elite sport in 1990.

FRITZ LANG

Austrian director born in 1890 in Vienna. He made his name as a director in Europe with films such as Metropolis (1927) before fleeing the Nazis in 1933. He went to the US where he made films such as Fury and The Big Heat. He died in the US in 1976.

DECEMBER 6 DAVE BRUBECK

American jazz musician born in 1920. He studied music before serving in the army in WWII playing in a band. After the war he became a pioneer of West Coast or “Cool” jazz, typified in his Take Five. He died in 2012
