LOCALS ON MOVE TOWARDS CANCER-FREE FUTURE

- SATRIA DYER-DARMAWAN

THIS year’s Burdekin Relay For Life has a new organising committee with local men and women leading the way towards a cancer-free future.

Newly appointed chairman John Furnell said his team was excited to put on a fantastic event for the community.

“Our committee has a wonderful diversity of talent and skills,” Mr Furnell said.

“We are all looking forward to organising the best possible Relay For Life for the Burdekin and raising plenty of funds for Cancer Council Queensland’s lifesaving work.”

Burdekin Relay For Life is a community fundraising event organised by a local committee of volunteers where money is raised in the lead-up to the event for Cancer Council Queensland’s vital work in cancer research, prevention and support.

At Burdekin Relay For Life on Saturday, July 24, teams will take turns to pass a baton around the track at the Ayr Showgrounds for eight hours, as well as take part in inspirational ceremonies, entertainment and activities.

Mr Furnell said now was the perfect time for locals to get involved.

“The truly wonderful thing about Relay For Life is that it crosses all barriers – it brings people together, no matter their situation in life; all unified in the fight against cancer,” Mr Furnell said.

“Our new committee is gathering speed, with many fantastic ideas for 2021, and we need people to register now so we can make it a year to remember.

“Plus, the sooner you register the sooner you can start your fundraising – small fundraising events spread out over a few months helps share the load and make it more enjoyable.”
