MULKADEE MAGIC

-

MORE than 750 Catholic school students from across North Queensland are coming together at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre to take part in the Mulkadee Youth Arts Festival’s this week.

Mulkadee gives students from Year 4 to 12 the opportunity to take part in a variety of intensive workshops.

Led by industry professionals in the areas of choir, dance, drama, band, guitar and strings, the festival will culminate with a massive concert performance on Friday night to a sellout crowd.

This year, students will be collaborating with local industry professionals in the areas of choir, dance, drama, band, guitar and strings.

It will be a spectacular week for students with drama directed by

Arminelle Fleming and the talented team from Theatre INQ, the band conducted by Wyana O’keeffe, the choir lead by Rachel Cairns, dance choreographed by Alice Holland and the talented team at Dancenorth, strings conducted by Stephen Frewen-lord and guitar lead by Damien Hill from Six Strings Townsville.

Townsville Catholic Education executive director Jacqui Francis said the Mulkadee Youth Arts Festival concept was developed to provide students across the diocese an opportunity to engage in the arts.

“Mulkadee is a wonderful experience for all involved providing our students and teaching staff who have an interest in the arts, an opportunity to come together and collaborate and develop their skills,” she said.

“For many of the students from our rural and remote areas, the opportunity to workshop, rehearse and perform at a venue such as the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre is a unique experience in itself.

“This year, students will be collaborating to present the classic story, The Wizard of Oz, with a modern twist.”
