Winter Ghost looks best in an open field

- LEE PEARCE

PUNTERS will be throwing darts at the board tonight ahead of a very open Premium Glass Fencing Versatility 4/5th Grade Final over 498m.

It will be one of the most difficult races to pick after last week’s outstanding heats over the shorter distance.

Winter Ghost (7) for Glen Olsen has had one start for a win from box 8 in 29.17. She can begin and should be one of the early leaders.

Wynburn Cruz (4) for Laurie Wode has two wins here with a PB of 28.97 over the distance. He usually has good box manners and should be up with the leaders.

Turn The Key (8) for Rhonda Essery is a consistent dog and should run a bold race from the outside alley.

Opposite her on the rails is Chance Your Arm who will don the cherry coat for Brad

Belford. He has placed over 457m at Temora and 525m at Wagga Wagga. He could factor early in the race so best to watch the betting.

Silent Key (3) for Robert Lound has placed over the 520m at Ipswich which is solid form.

Cryptic Diamond (6) for Essery has two wins from 12 starts over the 380m but is having his first look at the longer distance.

His kennelmate Rocket

Jax (5) is the veteran runner of the field with PB of 29.11 over the 498m.

He was a last-up winner over Wynburn Craze during last week’s heats over the 380m but has not run the 498m since midway through his prep back in April.

The final will be the feature event of a 12-race program at the Townsville Showgrounds that also features heats of the Versatility 3/4th Grade.
