Gibson crowned as shire’s best tradie
Commitment to quality rewarded
MORE than 120 online Townsville Bulletin subscribers voted in an online poll, crowning Scott Gibson of Scott Gibson Building the shire’s top tradie.
Mr Gibson won with 12 per cent of the vote, narrowly beating out Brett Bartolini of BK Concreting on 11 per cent and Shaun Tabone, also of Scott Gibson Building, on 10 per cent.
Mr Gibson said it was good that “younger blokes giving it a go” had been recognised for their efforts.
He said he was engaged in nine new home builds throughout Hinchinbrook, employing Mr Bartolini as a concreting subcontractor.
Mr Gibson, a father of three children aged five or under, employs three tradespeople, an apprentice builder and a labourer, and is booked out until at least next year.
He said that despite the influx of work, Scott Gibson Building remained committed to ensuring quality standards were maintained.
“Even though we’ve got a lot of work on, we don’t want the quality of our work to fall so that is one thing that I pride myself on, a good quality product,” Mr Gibson said.
“And getting the job done in a reasonable time, with a few of us working we can get the jobs done a bit quicker than single tradesmen.”
He believed he delivered top-quality builds on time and within the agreed budget.
“If you’re not true to your word you get found out pretty quickly, especially in a small town,” Mr Gibson said.
He said his business began focusing on new home builds three or four years ago, an area dominated by Townsville-based builders at the time.
“We use as many locals as we can, there are some trades that aren’t present in the Ingham district so we have to go to Townsville, like plasterers, but other than that we use as many locals as possible.”
Mr Gibson said that policy also extended to sourcing building materials locally whenever possible.
