COWBOYS WINGER CLAPS BACK AT ‘FAN’

- MATTHEW ELKERTON

MUCH like his last-ditch tackles that have ironed out opponents, Cowboys fan favourite Kyle Feldt has laid the digital smack down to an online antagoniser this week.

Feldt regained his club try-scoring supremacy for the season with a double in the Cowboys’ drought-breaking win over the Dragons in Rockhampton.

It included a quintessential Feldt aerial special after he outleapt Mikaele Ravalawa to touch down in the corner. The Cowboys’ Instagram site celebrated Feldt’s try-scoring antics with a post exclaiming that it was “six-straight years with double digit tries” for the winger.

Instagram user Tony Doulis left a scathing comment on the post asking: “How many missed tackles? How many kicks out on the full? How many dumb penalties?”

Feldt wasted little time before he left a clap back that silenced the online critic, suggesting he should already have the answers considering he commented.

The winger’s comment has more than 200 likes and several fans have backed him up with their replies.

It is not the first time Feldt has publicly hit back at a punter online this season. When the winger brought up his milestone 100th try in the NRL, he posted about the feat on his Facebook.

But one follower had a crack at Feldt, commenting: “Too bad you have had 1000 scored against your wing position.” Feldt couldn’t help himself, responding: “Too bad you haven’t scored any.”

Online trolls and critics have become a stain on the game in the modern era, with the access to players and coaches at its highest due to social media.

For the record, according to Fox Sports Stats Lab, Feldt has scored a team-high 12 tries in 2021, but has conceded 27 errors (fourth in the NRL), missed 43 tackles (67th in the NRL) and conceded 11 penalties (10th in the NRL).

He also leads the Cowboys for tackle busts with 73 (20th in the NRL) and line breaks with 21 (fifth in the NRL).
