1813 JOHN SEDGWICK American Major General
Sedgwick was a Union Army general during the American Civil War. He was killed in battle in 1864. He was shot after telling staff and troops: “They couldn’t hit an elephant at this distance.” His was the highest-ranking Union death in the war.
1857 MILTON S HERSHEY
American chocolatier
Hershey pioneered the manufacture of caramel using fresh milk. He created a company that achieved mass export sales but later sold the company to establish a another company supplying massproduced milk chocolate. The first Hershey bars sold in 1900.
1877 STANLEY LORD English sailor
Lord was captain of the SS Californian on the night of the Titanic disaster. The Californian was the nearest ship to the Titanic at the time of the sinking. He and his crew were criticised for not rendering timely assistance.

Dahl’s books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide. His works include James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, Fantastic Mr Fox and George’s Marvellous Medicine.

Australian cricketer
Warne made his Test debut after only seven first class matches, called in to the Australian team in 1992 against
India. He took 1/150 from 45 overs. Warne’s 708 Test wickets was a record until broken by Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan in 2007.

The daughter of singersongwriter Paul, Mccartney became interested in clothes design at an early age. She designed her first jacket at the age of 13 and three years later interned for Christian Lacroix. She is a vegetarian and does not use leather in her designs.

New Zealand cricketer
A right-hand batsman and useful medium-pace bowler, Mcmillan made his Test debut in 1997 against Australia at the age of 22. His highest score was 142 against Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa Stadium.
