Mobile phones stolen during string of residentia­l break-ins

MOBILE phones have been stolen from two Charters Towers properties in the past week, with police now on the hunt for the offenders.

On September 15 at 2am a Cambridge St property was entered and two necklaces and a two Samsung S8 phones stolen.

The owner of the property said he had left the premises to pick his wife up from work and returned a short time later to find the door opened and the items missing.

Then between 4.50pm on September 8 and 3.45am on September 9 an iphone 6 Plus was taken from a property on Plant St. The offender removed a number of louvres to gain entry to the property.

Police said the two thefts were not believed to be related, though they urged anyone with informatio­n to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crimestopp­ers on 1800 333 000.

SCHOOL BREAK-IN

A 19-year-old man has been charged with entering a premises and committing an indictable offence after a break-in at Charters Towers State High School.

It is alleged that between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on September 8 the teen and another person aged 16 gained entry to the school hall. CCTV cameras were allegedly sprayed with aerosols to blur vision, a fire extinguish­er sprayed around the hall and a water hose used on the PA system.

The 19-year-old will appear in the Charters Towers Magistrate­s Court on September 27 over the break-in and he is also charged with trespassin­g on school property.

WINDOWS SMASHED

Police are appealing for witnesses or informatio­n in relation to damage done to a car in Hodgkinson St this week.

The owner of the vehicle reported hearing smashing glass, yelling and other noises at 2.30am on September 12.

The car owner checked the Holden Barina the next morning at 6.30 and discovered the driver’s side window and the passenger’s window had been smashed.

DRUG-DRIVING CHARGE

A Charters Towers woman will face court in November after she was charged with drugdrivin­g.

It is alleged the woman was driving a Subaru Liberty on Deane St at 1.10pm on September 9.

The 33-year-old will appear in the Charters Towers Magistrate­s Court on November 29.
