Action on the greens

THERE were a number of competitio­ns games played at the Gold City Bowls Club recently with A singles and A pairs matches on the rinks.

In the A Singles John Robins played Jack Scholes. John took nine ends to score and 30 ends to eventually win.

Tom O’brien played Aron Macpherson. Aron eventually scored on five ends in a row, which gave him the winning break.

Adrian Peno played Harry Bartlett. Adrian was playing too consistent and went on to win comfortabl­y.

Kevin Gardner played Bill Bowen. Bill did not get mobile until it was all over.

In the A pairs Jack Scholes and Denis Donaldson played Daniel Dunne and John Robins. John and Daniel were on their game winning easily.

Kevin Gardner and Adrian Peno defeated Wayne Lestone 22-16. In the A pairs Clint and Aron Macpherson were too strong for Dunne and Robins winning 30-14.

Aron and Clint went on to easily defeat Bob Wine.

There were three rinks in operation on Sunday.

On rink three, Tina Barrett, Joe Hasson and Ian Barrett were against Grace Gleeson, Ken Peace and Tom O’brien. Tom and his crew struggled with the pace of the green and were behind all the way.

On rink four, Shirley Gravenall, Dan Speer and Paul Rich were against Errol Shuttlewor­th,

Daniel Dunne and Harry Bartlett. Paul and his team were handling the conditions better and came away with a comfortabl­e win.

On rink five, Betty Johnstone, Laurie Laidlow and Arthur Balkin played Ken Cowan, Jack Scholes and Bill Bowen. Arthur was consistent­ly successful­ly playing conversion shots.

The club AGM is to be held on Sunday at 9am and it is important members attend.

Anyone interested in having a roll should head along to the club tonight for Thursday night bowls. Names need to be in to the club on Prior St by 6pm for a 6.30pm start under lights.
