Kids pull knife on woman for car

- SHAYLA BULLOCH

TWO arrests have been made after a woman was confronted and threatened with a knife before having her car stolen on Tuesday.

It comes just days after 15 cars were stolen from Townsville properties on the long weekend.

About 7am on Tuesday, a 54-year-old woman was parking her car near Townsville Community Learning Centre in Thompson St, Mundingburra when three teenagers confronted her. One of the boys was allegedly armed with a knife and threatened her. They demanded the keys to her blue Toyota Camry and fled.

The vehicle was spotted d r i v i n g d a n g e r - ously and speeding across the city multiple times on Tuesday. The w o m a n was not physically injured in the ordeal. The group is understood to have also been involved in another armed robbery at Riverway.

Townsville Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said it was disappointing to see such mayhem.

“It’s very disappointing, but we are out there 24/7 and we will hunt these people down and make sure we remove them from society,” he said.

“There’s a small cohort who continue to carry on like this … no more than a dozen people.”

Despite their repeated behaviour, Superintendent Hanlon said they couldn’t keep people in prison forever.

“When we arrest someone, they have to face the consequences, and then it’s about how we as a community can change this behaviour to make sure there is a better path for these people.”

Police are seeking the help of a man who witnessed the armed robbery on Tuesday.

They are urging a man, who spoke to the woman immediately after the robbery, to come forward and help with the investigation. If you have any information, call 131 444.
