Sign up for camp fun
THE Charters Towers Isolated Children’s Parents Association branch is gearing up for the 2021 Fit 4 Rural Futures Sports Camp.
This year’s camp will be held from November 29 to December 3, at Columba Catholic College (Mount Carmel Campus).
After last year’s forced spell due to the impacts of the Covid pandemic, Charters Towers ICPA branch members have once again worked their magic to enrich the week-long program.
Camp co-ordinator Maxine Sharpe was looking forward to seeing the excitement and interaction of the young participants who travelled many dusty miles from cattle stations and other isolated parts of the region to take part in the sports camp.
“Our annual ICPA sports camp has always been about providing sporting and extracurricular opportunities to isolated kids and families that they would otherwise never get to experience,” she said.
“It also provides a rare chance for families to connect on a social and personal level, which helps to strengthen the wellbeing and resilience of the bush community.”
This year, the camp committee has placed a much stronger focus on engaging local coaches and activity providers, to help boost the region’s economy.
Some of the activities in store for the camp participants include swimming, dance, cricket, art workshops, music, tennis, netball, Under 5s play group, colour run and a new addition of wheelchairbased para-sports.
The evening entertainment will include movies, a disco, Christmas lights tour and more.
Maxine assured attending parents and carers that it wouldn’t just be the children who would enjoy some special and valuable experiences at Sports Camp 2021.
“This week is all about creating opportunities for our families to get active, connect with others, have some fun and leave behind some of the stresses of the year,” Ms Sharpe said.
