DISCOVER AN OASIS IN CITY

- EVAN MORGAN

VETERAN community support organisation Oasis Townsville will host a grand launch event at its purpose-built facility today.

The Oasis Townsville chair, Lieutenant General John Caligari said the event was an opportunity for the community to visit the new facility to find out more about the organisation.

“We were handed the keys to the new facility in May this year and have been working hard to build our operational capability and functions to ensure we can serve our clients to the highest possible standards,” Lieutenant General Caligari said.

“The organisation has quickly established itself as the home base for the veteran community including families to access the many services available to them to help with their integration into the Townsville community.

“We have been particularly busy with transitioning veterans.

“More and more, it is becoming known as a safe and welcoming place to come and connect with mates and we are seeing that with the increased numbers in the Dirty Boots Café and Veterans and Partners Lounge.

“The grand launch provides an opportunity for us to showcase our buildings, provide more information on what we do and importantly, spread the message further that there is a place where veterans and their families can come and feel welcome and supported.”

The grand launch is a free event and will include free children’s rides, fairy floss, an animal farm, information displays, demonstrations and performances from the 1RAR Band.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase at Dirty Boots Café, and from food trucks attending the event.
