Stab victim not talking
A MAN who almost died after being stabbed in the neck in a Garbutt street has refused to help police find the person responsible.
The 35-year-old was left bleeding on Lancaster St on October 7 after a person he knew allegedly stabbed him in the neck, according to police.
The man was rushed to hospital and placed in an induced coma for 12 days, but was raised from his unconscious state on Tuesday.
Townsville Detective Acting Inspector Dean Cavanagh said detectives were able to ask the man what happened for the first time since the incident.
“He was stable, coherent and able to hold a conversation with detectives,” Inspector Cavanagh said.
“But he has refused to co-operate with police inquiries at this stage, and the matter is finalised.”
Despite the lack of information, police believe the man went to the Garbutt street with a group of people the night he was stabbed.
He then walked further down the street to meet a person he knew, who then allegedly stabbed him in the neck about 8.15pm. According to police, the attacker ran off and the group of people ran to the man’s aid.
Photos from the scene show a large number of detectives, including the dog squad, saturate the area which extended to Halifax St.
A large crime scene was set up to look for clues, but they could not find the attacker’s weapon.
The weapon that the man was allegedly stabbed with severed his carotid artery and caused massive blood loss.
He had surgery on his injuries and has remained in Townsville University Hospital since.
Inspector Cavanagh said police would still try to track down the person responsible despite the lack of co-operation.
Other witnesses they spoke to were of no help.
“We will still look at all available evidence and try to identify a suspect, as it is still a concerning and targeted offence.”
A spokeswoman from Townsville University Hospital said that the man was in a stable condition at hospital.
Police urged anyone with information to come forward.
