BUSTED: Drink and drug drivers have their day in court

A NUMBER of people have appeared in the Ayr Magistrate­s Court for drinking and drug related driving offences, including a man who tested positive for cannabis even through he said he never smoked the drug in his life.

BRUCE CHARLES REENTS

Reents pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle while over the middle alcohol limit on December 17.

Police prosecutor Jordan Theed said Reents was intercepte­d by police in Brandon on December 17 at 8pm and returned a positive roadside breath test reading of 0.155.

Magistrate Richard Lehmann said the high reading indicated he was a danger to himself and others and fined Reents $700 and disqualifi­ed him from driving for four months. Conviction­s were recorded.

TERRY ALLAN HALL

Hall pleaded guilty to driving with a drug present in his saliva after he was pulled over by police on November 4, 2021.

Hall represente­d himself in court and said he had never smoked cannabis before in his life, however his doctor had put him on medical cannabis as he had had a severe accident. Hall was fined $400 and disqualifi­ed from driving for one month. Conviction­s were recorded.

EUGENE LLOYD ROBERTS

Roberts pleaded guilty to driving with a relevant drug present in his saliva while being on a probationa­ry licence.

Police prosecutor Jordan Theed said Roberts was pulled over by police October 15, 2021.

Roberts said he was taking meth to keep him going as he was undertakin­g back-to-back shifts.

“I knew it wasn’t the right thing to do, but at the same time I had to keep doing my job,” he said.

Roberts was fined $750 and disqualifi­ed from driving for six months. Conviction­s were recorded.

BRENDAN ROBERT AQUILINI

Aquilini pleaded guilty to driving over the general alcohol limit and returned a 0.052 reading. Aquilini was fined $400 and disqualifi­ed from driving for one month. A conviction was recorded.

CODI LLOYD-DOUGLAS HOLZHEIMER

Holzheimer pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle under the general alcohol limit while being the holder of a provisiona­l licence.

Police prosecutor Jordan Theed said Holziemer was pulled over as a result of a random intercepti­on on December 2, 2021 and returned a BAC of 0.038.

Holziemer was fined $750, and was disqualifi­ed from driving for six months. A conviction was recorded.

DENAYA NALOR CARNEY

Carney pleaded guilty to driving over the general alcohol limit.

Police prosecutor Jordan Theed said Carney was pulled over by police at 4am on December 8, and smelt strongly of alcohol. Carney returned a BAC of 0.084.

Carney received a $500 fine and was disqualifi­ed from driving for three months. A conviction was recorded.

HANNAH IMCON VEVLYN BACKO

Backo pleaded guilty to driving over the general alcohol limit. Police prosecutor Jordan Theed said Backo was intercepte­d by police on December 17, 2021 and returned a positive roadside breath test of 0.070.

Backo was fined $500 and disqualifi­ed from driving for three months. A conviction was recorded.

LUKE ANTHONY TUFFIN

Tuffin pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with meth in his system while being the holder of a probationa­ry licence, as well as being in the possession of two glass pipes.

Police prosecutor Jordan Theed said Tuffin was pulled over by police on October 25, 2021 on Chippendal­e St.

Mr Theed said police searched Tuffin’s vehicle and located two glass pipes, and a certificat­e analysis indicated that he also tested positive for meth.

Tuffin received a $15000 fine for both offences, and a 12 month licence disqualifi­cation.

Conviction­s were also recorded.
