Not so smart after all

-

WE need a laugh. Mensa people with IQS above 130 love to lord it over everyone. “Look how smart we are,” you can hear them saying.

If you ever meet someone who is in Mensa and you don’t know it, don’t worry, because within five minutes of meeting them they will have told you. Well, here’s a story from not long ago when there was a national Mensa meeting in Townsville – because isn’t this where the smartest people live?

Some of these bright sparks adjourned for a steak sandwich and a couple of sherbets at the Herbert for lunch.

Can’t blame them washing down a steak sanger with a couple of Milton

Mangoes. They’re only normal. Well sort of.

How could they swap the contents of the two bottles without spilling any? After a 10-minute brainstorming session, they deduced that by using a process involving a sieve, a Bunsen burner and a tiny propeller they could transfer the contents of the two bottles without mishap.

So delighted with themselves were they that they invited the waitress over so that they could dazzle her with their high IQS. “Miss,” one of them said. “We couldn’t help but notice that the pepper was in the salt shaker and the …” Before he could continue the waitress leaned over the table, unscrewed the tops from both bottles and switched them. “Sorry about that,” she said. You could cut the silence at the Mensa table with a knife.
