Comfort is key for Channel 7 Sunrise presenter Natalie Barr, with Frankie4 sneakers, jeans, pashmina scarfs and Jennifer Aniston-inspired silhouettes making for a classic walk-in-wardrobe. Despite sharing a long list of fashion faux-pas, Barr’s style choices are all class with a reserved but tasteful take on trends, accessories and Australian fashion labels.

How would you describe your personal style?

I guess classic. I don’t like fussy or uncomfortable, even if it is in fashion. I would wear pants or jeans most days of the week but I’m trying to branch out and buy more dresses. I’m not a big fan of skirts – I have such trouble trying to work out what goes with them!

Who are your style icons?

Anyone I see in the street. I love people watching and seeing how women put together an outfit and make it their own. Jennifer Aniston always seems to get it right.

What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe?

A black pashmina I bought 25 years ago, just after I moved to Sydney. It’s big, soft and was expensive. I always travel with it.

What are your favourite brands?

Scanlan Theodore and Camilla and Marc are incredible Aussie brands that make beautiful clothes year after year. I have bad feet so I live in Frankie4 white sneakers and also their sandals.

Have you ever made a style faux pas?

Thirty years on TV … where do I start!? The perm in the 80s … I looked like some kind of dorky poodle. My lamé silver strapless ball dress for the Year 12 formal probably hasn’t aged well, but I loved it at the time. Then a bubble skirt in the late 80s with high heels. Think I’d better stop …

What’s the most you’ve spent on an outfit?

I got a pay rise once and spent about $1000 on a pair of Hugo Boss boots. They were really uncomfortable and I hardly wore them. I still have them ... they’re still uncomfortable.

What is the most surprising thing in your wardrobe?

That I don’t really own anything that surprising?

Top three wardrobe must-haves?

A great pair of jeans, jacket and jumper.

What is the most sentimental item in your wardrobe and why?

My dad’s cuff links. He died 20 years ago this year.

What would you buy if money was no object?

A Chanel handbag … then a Prada one.

Summer or winter fashion?

Summer. Winter makes me depressed.

Denim or dresses?

Denim every day of the week, but I’m trying hard with the dresses! Minimalist or sneakers? White sneakers

Is there anything from your wardrobe you’ve regretted throwing out?

A lot. Because every 15 years or so, just as you throw things out, the style comes back!

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

I’m not really a shoe person so I go for comfort – except for Sunrise each day which involves beautiful heels. I have half a dozen pairs of the Frankies!
