Holland delights her fans

- EVAN MORGAN

JADE Holland’s long-awaited return performance in her home town did not disappoint as she wowed the sellout crowd with a selection of her latest songs.

Touch of Salt was the perfect location for the country pop singer, for her first hometown performance in more than two years, as part of her Summertime 365 tour.

Although she said she was nervous, the audience lapped up every note and word.

Holland was bubbling over with excitement to be back performing in the city.

“I am absolutely stoked and I think we sold so many tickets now that we don’t have enough chairs – it’s a sellout.

“So it’s very exciting because I think being away does make me a little bit nervous. Have people forgotten my music or forgotten about who I am?

“I love Townsville, so coming home to do a hometown show is really special for me.”

Holland has been on the road with her Summertime 365 tour crisscrossing the state for the past few months.

She said the response from the audience had been amazing. “It has been really positive. It is really nice because I think people feel comfortable coming out to see shows and to hear them and I think it is just a comfort level now.

“Everyone is upbeat about post-covid and we can come and play music.”

Earlier this year she was named as one of eight recipients of the Regional and Remote Engagement Program, part of the Australian Women in Music Awards.

She attended a conference and spoke about her experiences as a young musician trying to make it in the industry.

She discussed feeling pressured to have sex with venue managers – or not get booked to play their venue again – and the toll that took on her mental health.

“We got to have a chat with Tina Arena and find out about her thoughts on the situation of women in music and the industry and mental health around it,” she said.

“She said that we all just need to find the inner strength to open up and talk about it.”

While busy with her current tour Holland is still writing new songs.
