Cash, meth seized by cops

A STASH of meth and more than $20,000 cash was allegedly found by police during a random breath test at Kelso.

About 8.30am on Sunday, police were randomly pulling over vehicles for breath tests at a static site on a road in Kelso.

They stopped a Peugeot with two men inside and

searched the car following a chat with the pair.

Body cam footage shows an officer searching a backpack and allegedly finding a wad of cash and a small container of crystallis­ed meth.

The footage shows the officer remove all the items from the bag and lay them out on the boot of the car while he speaks to one of the men. Police will allege they

seized $21,000, 48g of meth and 1g of marijuana.

Upper Ross Police Facility officer-in-charge Sergeant Matthew Dixon said it was excellent work by the officers involved. “We are very pleased to have these drugs off the streets. The officers did an excellent job” Sergeant Dixon said.

“Over the course of the day, we conducted 517 ran

dom breath tests with 12 people charged with drink driving and two people charged with unlicensed driving. “We are very pleased that the vast majority of drivers chose to do the right thing.”

A 37-year-old Kirwan man was charged with three counts of drug possession, and one count each of possessing tainted property, possessing anything used in the commission of a crime and possessing property suspected of being acquired for the purpose of committing a drug offence.

He will face Townsville Magistrate­s Court on July 8.

A 47-year-old Charters Towers man was charged with possessing dangerous drugs. He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrate­s Court on July 4.
