Townsville Bulletin

PJ is correct about 1300SMILES Stadium. It was given to the people of Townsville by the Kern Brothers. It was not given to TCC or the state government. PERCY, WEST END

Congratulations to Townsville council for setting fire to Castle Hill just weeks before the eyes of the world will be upon it through the V8s on TV. Scorched earth is a great advert for the city. SLIM JIM OF WEST END

It’s crunch time now for the state government‘s and TCC’S budgets. Will we get relief from the crippling economics that are stifling businesses or more sorrow due to future funding? Time Will tell. M J REYNOLDS, MT LOUISA

BG, Heatley, at night, or as needed, you use energy stored in batteries or pumped hydro stations like that at Wivenhoe, Kidston (under construction), Borumba and Cressbrook dams (proposed) or other sites identified by the $35m search you should have seen announced in this paper on 11 June. STEVE, BELGIAN GARDENS

BG, Healey, renewables as Steve, BG, states are the backbone of our electricity network. Maybe we could redirect the $2bn from the

I feel for all the creatives in the arts and TV world when a show like Gogglebox wins a Logie. It really is an insult to them.

Copperstring project into solar and wind for Townsville. Clean green energy 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. AJ, YABULU

If you put in the right amount of solar and wind power you use part of that to produce hydrogen and when the renewables are off line you run generators off hydrogen producing only water out of the exhaust. Whether you believe in global warming or not fossil fuels are finite and we will have to find an alternative like it or not. A steady transition where both sources are used until a complete transition can be completed would be ideal. P.H, HERMIT PARK

John Mellon, Kelso. That’s fine, you keep dreaming, but us realists will stick with a reliable energy source

that we know is tried and true and not costing taxpayers excessive amounts of dollars. RON, KELSO

Davo, Heatley, when will you be sharing your house with strangers? Let me know please. I know a nice family of six in need. Please send your address and I’ll send them straight over. In fact I’ll drive them over myself, you’re way too kind. LEE, CONDON

AG, 4812. You obviously have no idea how business works. Your simplistic 16 cents is nonsense – the on-costs which go with this 5.2 per cent rise reach to additional penalty rates, superannuation, payroll tax, holiday pay, sick pay, long service benefits and on it goes, all of which the bottomless barrel of the proprietor needs to meet, hence the need to raise prices. This is how inflation compounds and results in the destruction of the economy, which is hereditary for Labor governments. POP, BUSHY BEACH Good God, $25m for a couple of flags on Sydney Harbour Bridge. This country is in debt, absolutely ridiculous. Aren’t we all Australians? We should all be under one flag. I think the public should have input in this. L. G, WULGURU
