The Edmund Rice Tradition
As a Catholic school in an Edmund Rice tradition, Ignatius Park College attempts to build its curriculum offerings around the following four touchstones: Liberating Education, Gospel Spirituality, Inclusive Community, and Justice and Solidarity.
As part of this mission to develop substantive, faithfilled young men, the college offers a Praxis model of faith education – in other words, it is by doing that young men learn.
In order to fulfil the divinely appointed charge to serve and care for others, Ignatius Park offers the opportunity for its students to put their faith into action. Starting from the small and local, to the large and community-based, the college has developed partnerships and programs to enable its students to learn and grow as young men of faith and action.
Advocacy
Students at Ignatius Park College take up causes that matter and work towards raising awareness and funds in a variety of ways. Working with Caritas and St Vincent de Paul is always a highlight of every year. Participation in Townsville’s Relay for Life focuses on support for cancer survivors.
A variety of campaigns to support mental health education and care are also undertaken each year.
Volunteering
As well as providing all its students with opportunities to volunteer in a variety of ways, the college is focusing its senior years students into a three year volunteering program that will teach the importance of volunteering to the community and a variety of volunteering-specific, and workplace general, skills for the future.
