Not all workplaces will be suitable for staff pets in the workplace.

But they are also the type of workplaces that may benefit from a host of other staff workplace wellness initiatives.

Some may be in-house, but bringing in an external facilitator may also be an option for some workplaces.

Centacare NQ specialises in employee assistance programs focusing on mental wellbeing and assisting organisations with qualified knowledge to support staff with a work/life balance.

Workplace wellness is an area that Centacare NQ can also provide customised training, mediation, supervision, facilitated discussions and courses, delivered by counsellors and accredited facilitators.

Three schools, one cast, and a timeless story were the perfect ingredients for this year’s huge Combined Schools’ Musical production of Beauty and the Beast.

Involving students from St Patrick’s College Townsville, St Margaret Mary’s College and Ignatius Park College, performers worked for months finessing their singing, acting and dancing skills.

Hosting duties are rotated each year, and 2022 was St Patrick’s College Townsville’s turn. Co-ordinating rehearsals across three colleges is always challenging but complications arising from COVID restrictions added yet another layer of difficulty.

Luckily, the show’s director and well-known Townsvillebased artist Arminelle Fleming was at the helm.

With her wealth of knowledge, skill and industry professional contacts, Ms Fleming crafted the show into something clever, vibrant and moving. “The decision to bring Arminelle on board was an easy one,” college principal Amber Hauff said.

“We knew how much the students would benefit from her experience; how many school casts get to collaborate with professionals? Arminelle’s undeniable passion for the arts was at the heart of the show and building those relationships has made us stronger as a community.”

Head of Dramatic Arts, Dance and Performance Jojo Butler said that in a show such as Beauty and the Beast, audiences expected to be visually wowed and believed they delivered.

“The villager costumes and props looked layered and auth

entic, but when we entered the enchanted castle, there were dancing whisks, dinner plates, cutlery, flowers and fruit bowls,” Ms Butler said.

“The effect was both magical, yet quirky.”

Cast members were actively involved in the behind-the

scenes preparations, from styling wigs to applying moss to the castle’s exterior walls.

“I’m so proud that almost everything audiences saw was shaped by the performers who were on stage,” said Ms Fleming. “But we had expert help along the way.”
