Book key to frenzy

- KATIE HALL

A MISSING sketchbook sent a Townsville woman into such a frenzy she smashed a window, flipped off police, and drove into oncoming traffic in an attempt to flee a crime scene.

Albertina Nancy Solien, 26, pleaded guilty in Townsville Magistrates Court to charges of assault occasioning bodily harm, dangerous operation of a vehicle, evasion, and obstruct police.

The court heard that an argument over a misplaced sketchbook filled with tattoo designs caused Solien’s behaviour to spiral out of control at an Innisfail property on December 21, 2020.

Police prosecutor Cody Rowe told the court that the other woman locked herself in her room out of fear, before Solien left the property.

An hour later Solien returned, and after screaming for the woman to come outside, Solien walked to her bedroom window and punched the glass in.

The glass shattered on the woman’s leg, causing the flesh to tear and bleed.

When police arrived at the home, Solien jumped into her car, and flipped them off before driving away. Mr Rowe said despite police activating their lights and sirens, Solien sped away through a red light and turned into oncoming traffic.

She drove in the wrong lane for 30m before “abruptly” swerving back.

On January 3, 2021, Solien called police while she was at the Sealink ferry terminal and asked if they could drive her to Cardwell.

When they arrived and told her she was under arrest for the earlier offences, Solien ran away through the carpark.

Lawyer Tim Fedorowytsch told Magistrate Richard Lehmann that his client was “embarrassed”, but had a good employment history.

He said that while Solien was moving out, a “substantial” book of tattoo designs that she had wanted to sell to tattoo parlours went missing.

It was that which sparked Solien’s “wrath” towards the other woman.

Mr Lehmann said Solien’s behaviour was “completely unacceptable”.

She was sentenced to 12 months’ probation, ordered to complete 200 hours of community service and fined $6892.50.

Convictions were recorded.
