Lease creative way to grow a business

- TONY RAGGATT

THE staff of digital marketing and design business Mitchell Creative are happy campers after moving into their new leased office and warehouse unit in Garbutt.

Mitchell Creative has taken a five-year lease on a small 65 sqm unit through Ray White Commercial in the Domain Business Park developed by Geoff Hartley in Greg Jabbs Drive.

Business owner Jane Mitchell said that the office was “lovely”.

She was full of praise for Mr Hartley, a local developer.

“It’s nice to be with someone who is genuinely nice. He’s been super helpful and modified the tenancy to suit our needs,” Ms Mitchell said.

She is also thankful to be in an affordable, modern unit with plenty of parking and close to many of her clients in the suburbs after being in shared office space in the CBD.

“We can do our own thing and not be concerned about other (office users). We don’t have to book the meeting room,” she said.

Domain Business Park is the third project in Townsville by Mr Hartley who has

found strong demand among businesses for small office and warehouse units.

Ray White Commercial Townsville director Troy Townsend said the business park’s first stage had just been completed and all 10 units had been leased.

Mr Townsend said the tenancies’ space of 32 to 140 sqm were very popular with small to medium-sized businesses.

“The 10 units have been leased and we expect the same thing with stage two. By the time that’s nearing completion I’m sure they will all be leased. There’s a huge market for these kind of small

spaces outside of the city,” Mr Townsend said.

Renting from $700 a month, they were also very affordable, he said.

For a small business that had been operating from a home, the units were an ideal start-up location with the ability to move into a larger tenancy as the business grew, Mr Townsend said.

Ms Mitchell said Mitchell Creative had started as a home-based business before leasing space in shared offices in the city several years ago.

With the adoption of digital services supercharged by the Covid-19 pandemic, they

had been “flat out” servicing the market for mostly small and medium-sized businesses.

They now employed three staff and had opened a business in Darwin where they believed there was an opening for a digital service that provided value for money.

“We are always busy. Covid has made us even more busy,” Ms Mitchell said.

Domain Business Park is an architecturally designed complex with full-length glass shopfronts and secure on-site carparking.

Another 14 units ranging in size from 32 to 53 sqm will be developed in stage two.
